Join us to celebrate the sun (perhaps)! This week we’ll be carefully working to maintain some ecologically unique “balds” (grassy areas on sun-exposed rock substrate, often up above a river or other large waterway’s slope) by cutting back encroaching Douglas fir trees that are trying to hog the sun from some of the more rare plant species, and the insects and other animals that otherwise make these grassy, rocky environments their homes. This work party will involve some extra walking, as we travel first up a forest road and then across a forested slope to reach the sunny outcroppings. As time allows, we will also work as a team to build habitat piles in the nearby forest.
Meet at 10:00 am at the public parking area immediately south of the Duckabush River on US 101. The parking area is signed, and is the first driveway on the right after crossing the Duckabush bridge heading south from Brinnon.
