Tuesday, July 14 • 10:00 am to 1:00 pm • Snow Creek Estuary Preserve
Snow Creek Estuary Preserve has undergone extensive habitat restoration in partnership with the North Olympic Salmon Coalition and the Jefferson County Conservation District. And with the habitat recovery, our friendly habitat engineers the beaver have moved back in! While those buggers are hard at work building their dams and new creek channels that support salmon habitat, we also need to do our part by adding shade to the creek. Towards that end, we’ll be building beaver-exclusion fencing and other deterrents around select taller trees within the young forest. This work will involve lots of moving through tall grass and uneven terrain and kneeling to get to the base of the tallest trees.
Directions: 31 Fairmount Rd. From Port Townsend, travel west on Hwy 20 to reach a moderately sized pullout at the corner of Hwy 20 and Fairmount Rd close to the intersection with Hwy 101.
