We’re very pleased to announce that starting in September 2024, AmeriCorps habitat enhancement crew member Greg Sachs will step into the role of Jefferson Land Trust’s full-time Field Assistant!

In this position, he’ll work in the field to support the short- and long-term stewardship responsibilities of the Land Trust by taking actions that support the desired future condition of our protected properties.

“This role aligns perfectly with my values and goals, and gives me even more opportunity to be a good steward,” Greg said. “It’s the most perfect opportunity I could ask for.”

Since joining the organization as a member of a three-person AmeriCorps habitat enhancement crew in October 2023, Greg has been a fantastic asset to the Land Trust with his hard work, friendly attitude, and sincere belief in our mission.

“I love the work I’ve done here, the organization, and the people,” he said. “When the position came up, I was immediately excited. I feel like I’ve been training for this position the whole time.”

Over the past year, Greg’s gotten to learn deeply about the land across many of our nature preserves and about the strategies and planning we use to manage these special places. He’s become comfortable operating the specialized tools we use for land management projects.

And he’s gotten to know the people — the staff members, volunteers, neighbors, students, teachers, partners, and so many others — who make up the Land Trust community.

Greg says he looks forward to building on the skills he’s learned — and the relationships he’s forged — in his new role.

“Years ago, I wanted to make a career change by a certain age. Now I’ve achieved it. I’m super excited to be able to make that change — to go from something that’s not fulfilling, to something that makes me feel like I’m doing good in the world every day.”

Congratulations, Greg, on this next step in your career with the Land Trust!
