Jefferson Land Trust is recruiting for an AmeriCorps Habitat Enhancement Crew Member. This is an AmeriCorps national service position for a full-time, 10.5-month engagement beginning on September 1, 2026.

Jefferson Land Trust works to preserve open space, working lands, and habitat forever. We
collaborate with property owners to promote practices that support species and habitat health. We also focus on maintaining the long-term health of agricultural soils.

Conservation requires ongoing care for habitat and a focus on preparing for future impacts. The crew member will support our efforts through specific conservation activities and ecosystem monitoring. The crew member will also improve community engagement through education and outreach events.

Applications open April 2, 2026 on MyAmericorps.gov. We expect to begin a rolling review of applications and interview scheduling beginning in late May. The Habitat Enhancement Crew Member will receive a monthly stipend of $3,157.14 plus health insurance and other benefits — as well as an education award of $7,395.00 upon the successful completion of the 10.5-month term.

Position Duties

The Habitat Enhancement Crew Member will advance the long-term conservation mission of Jefferson Land Trust by supporting the stewardship of the lands in our care, including:

  • Carrying out specific restoration activities such as forest thinning, trail decommissioning, native planting, and invasive species control
  • Creating and enhancing micro-habitats using nurse logs, standing snags, habitat piles, etc.
  • Monitoring and mapping current conditions
  • Conducting outreach through presentations, youth education programs, communications materials, and tabling at community events
  • Collaborating with staff members and volunteers.

Please note: This is an AmeriCorps national service position. It’s contingent on funding and will remain open until filled.
