Please join us in welcoming longtime Jefferson Land Trust volunteer Jane Guiltinan to her new role as a Jefferson Land Trust board member!

“After a wonderful career working to help people restore their health and wellness and develop personal resilience, the Land Trust caught my interest because I want to make an impact on these same issues for our community and the planet through environmental stewardship,” she says.

Jane retired as a naturopathic physician and dean of the naturopathic medicine program at Bastyr University in 2017. Having lived in Jefferson County briefly in the late 1980s, she always dreamed of retiring in Port Townsend. Upon moving there in 2017 she quickly got involved in community activities, including volunteering with Jefferson Land Trust, the Port Townsend Marine Science Center, the Northwest Maritime Center, the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding, the North Olympic Salmon Coalition and the Jefferson County Food Bank.

Fall leaves are scattered along the loop trail at Valley View Forest.

As a dedicated volunteer for the Land Trust since 2018, Jane has cheerfully undertaken many tasks and projects, including pulling noxious weeds like Scotch broom and English holly, clearing litter from nature preserves, planting and thinning and trees for overall forest health, and building and maintaining trails at Valley View Forest, where she also donates her time monitoring amphibian wildlife.

Jane is Dean Emeritus at Bastyr University and still teaches there as an affiliate faculty member. Most of all, Jane loves to be outdoors. Hiking, kayaking, biking, gardening, and golfing are some of her favorite pastimes.
