Local kids at Valley View Forest.
Bring together your family’s creativity and love for the outdoors in our Family Plein Air Art Class — a no-cost class for kids and parents (or their grandparents, relatives, guardians, or even family friends)! The term “Plein air” is French for “in open air,” and refers to the act of painting outdoors. Local artist Patricia Hagen will lead the class along with local naturalists Dave Rugh, Michele Olsen, and Oma Landstra.
We’ll begin the class with a guided walk to explore Valley View Forest, the gateway to Chimacum Ridge Community Forest. Along the way, Patricia and the naturalists will highlight the colors, textures, and shapes of the natural world — helping you see nature through an artist’s eyes.
The community pavilion at Valley View Forest.
After the walk, we’ll gather at the Valley View Forest community pavilion, where Patricia will share insights on materials, techniques, and styles, and guide you and your child to create your own nature-inspired artwork.
This no-cost class is open to families of all kinds. Adults must be accompanied by children! For ages 3-16. Space is limited to 20 participants, so be sure to reserve your spot today!
PS: Check out “Into the Woods: the Art of Patricia Hagen,” Patricia’s art show at Northwind Art’s Jeanette Best Gallery (701 Water Street, Port Townsend), running May 22 – July 7. This exhibit of large- and small-scale paintings captures the unique beauty of the Olympic Peninsula, immersing viewers in the distinct landscapes of this place. Many of the paintings in this show feature Jefferson Land Trust nature preserves!
