A San Francisco Bay Area native, Carleen recalls spending time in her backyard observing birds and butterflies when she was five years old. After completing her studies in Recreation Management and Biological Science, she began her career as a naturalist, sharing her enthusiasm for natural science and cultural history with school groups and the general public. Developing a nature center and transforming a historic cabin into a museum are some of the highlights of her career. In addition to writing grants for land acquisition and park projects, Carleen later worked as a web content developer at two community colleges.

Attracted by Port Townsend’s Victorian architecture and natural beauty, Carleen and her husband moved to Port Townsend in 2013. They enjoy traveling, visiting friends and family, observing wildlife, and watching sunsets. Carleen believes the Land Trust plays a vital role in preserving Jefferson County’s natural ecosystem, and is very enthusiastic about being part of that effort.

Carleen says, “I joined the Land Trust because I believe in its mission. I appreciate its collaborative and holistic approach to protecting our natural environment as well as making it more accessible. I want to be part of creating opportunities for people to deepen their connections with cultural and natural resources. Being involved in such an important endeavor is invigorating to me.”
