Standing snags and nurse logs galore! Let’s create space for salamanders and birds alike with a set of standing snags and nurse logs in the alder-salmonberry forest of Chai-yahk-wh Preserve. As we move toward the end of a major push for new wildlife habitat features, we’ll have a few more weeks of tree selection and uneven terrain to wrap up the 2024 season.
Directions: Chai-yahk-wh Preserve can be accessed via the entrance on Flagler Road across from Griffith Point Road. The entrance lies two miles past the “Welcome to Marrowstone Island” sign and is on the right side of the road. A small parking area lies just beyond WSU’s Twin Vista Ranch. Please refrain from parking along East Marrowstone Road to ensure public safety.
