iconHow you can help

A land trust is a promise . . . a promise we as a community make to our children, and their children, and their children, that in 50 years, 75 years, 100 years, the wild spaces, and memory places of Jefferson County will still exist, and that the quality of life and legacy they represent will remain forever.

Making good on that promise is hard work. It takes a lot of work, a lot of money, a lot of tenacity, a lot of hope, a lot of people, and a lot of vision. Friends use a variety of ways to be a part of the promise; gifts can be cash, stock or mutual funds, real estate, or life insurance policies. For gifts other than cash, we advise you to check with your attorney or tax advisor and to contact Shelby Smith our Development Director at 360-379-9501, ext 102.

We give you many ways to contribute. Below are ways to give securely and easily online. You may also download our contribution form to mail/fax or you can contact us to contribute by phone.

• Support our work with an unrestricted gift

Our day-to-day support comes from our loyal base of those who are committed to preserving the open space, working lands, and habitat that we currently enjoy. Whether outright or planned, unrestricted gifts are most useful, because they enable the Land Trust to use the funds in ways deemed in the discretion of Jefferson Land Trust’s board to be most critical.

• Direct your gift to land conservation in the Quimper Wildlife Corridor

Jefferson Land Trust's first project, going strong since the early 1990s, is the Quimper Wildlife Corridor — a "ribbon of green" stretching for 3.5 miles across the North Quimper Peninsula (project details and maps). Can you help with additional acquisitions and/or stewardship expenses?

• Direct your gift to the Opportunity Fund

To keep pace with land protection pressures, we urgently need a land acquisition reserve fund that is immediately available to take advantage of opportunities as they arise. Please be as generous as you can in support of "Conservation that Feeds our Future."

• Direct your gift to the Operations Endowment Fund

Our Operations Endowment Fund was established in 2010. Now it is possible for you to help ensure that Jefferson Land Trust continues to exist and thrive far into the future. Stewarding the land we have protected now and will protect in the future, is a permanent responsibility, and we need to ensure that there will be staff here to meet that responsibility. Please be as generous as you can in support of our future operations.

• Planned giving

A planned gift is made as a part of an overall financial or estate plan, and is usually deferred until the end of the donor's life. While gifts made during life are usually part of a budgetary plan, these gifts are usually smaller, since the donor may require those funds at some point. The gifts may be of land or financial assets.

The simplest and most common form of planned giving is by bequest. (There are ways to make life income gifts to the land trust, but these are best worked out with an attorney and/or planned giving specialist. Jefferson Land Trust can provide names of such professionals at your request.)

• Bequests

The Land Trust can be named as beneficiary in your will, living trust, life insurance policy, IRA, or other retirement plan. After your lifetime, your estate can then take a charitable deduction for the amount of your bequest. Depending on the size of your estate, this can result in substantial tax savings. Bequests can be changed at any point during your lifetime.

The legal name of our organization is Jefferson Land Trust; the federal tax ID number is 91-1465078. (more)

We will, of course, always respect your wishes for confidentiality, but we would appreciate knowing if you have named the Land Trust as a beneficiary in your estate plans. We would like to honor and appreciate you during your lifetime.
